SPONSOR A STUDENT

Many students have lost one or both parents and are considered orphans. Children who have lost both parents are taken in and cared for by relatives or other families in the community. If a family cannot afford to pay the school fees, it is impossible for a child to attend secondary school.

Because of extreme poverty in this part of Kenya many children do not have the opportunity to complete secondary school.

The Kenyan school system is implementing major changes and students now spend 6 years at primary school and 6 years at secondary school. Secondary education is divided into Junior Secondary School (grades 7, 8 and 9) and Senior Secondary School (grades 10, 11 and 12)

The KPC CBO selects bright needy students to be sponsored at Senior Secondary School. Students must have both the academic ability and the personal qualities needed to succeed. A Mentor is appointed for each student to provide support and encouragement and to monitor their progress.

For a commitment of $49 per month OR $588 per year, you can change the life of a Kenyan child.

SPONSORSHIP-HOW IT WORKS

Sponsors support their student to complete Senior Secondary School. Sponsorship of $49 per month or $588 per year covers the cost of school fees and textbooks.

A sponsor initially receives a photo of the student with information on the student’s life and family situation.

Students write to their sponsors at the end of each term enclosing copies of their examination results. We strongly encourage sponsors to write to their students as students greatly appreciate this personal level of support.

A visit to Kenya with Rob & Rikki can be arranged to meet your sponsored student.

SPONSORSHIP CASE STUDY

Sarah lived with her mother and two younger brothers and is one of five siblings. Her father, a fisherman, abandoned the family when she was 15 years old. The loss of her father’s income meant Sarah had to leave school before she completed Form 3.

Sarah thought her future looked bleak and would amount to nothing more than scavenging firewood with her mother. Together they burnt the wood to make charcoal to sell at the local market so the family could survive.

Imagine Sarah’s delight when she was selected to be sponsored to continue her education. Sarah was chosen as someone having both the academic ability and the personal qualities needed to succeed.

A sponsor was allocated to support Sarah and encouraged to write to her. As this new friendship developed with the exchange of letters, Sarah was greatly encouraged. She was amazed that someone from the other side of the world would take a personal interest in her.

After successfully completing Form 4 and with the support of her sponsor, Sarah then completed University studies to follow her dream and become a secondary school teacher.

In 2023 Sarah graduated from University with a Bachelor of Education Science (Mathematics and Physics) 2nd class Honours. She now teaches Physics at a secondary school and is able to contribute significantly to her family’s upkeep. Education has lifted Sarah out of poverty.
